Arlington-Teosinte Sister City Project

Welcome!

In September of 1988, the Arlington Board of Selectman officially recognized Teosinte, El Salvador, as the sister city of Arlington, Massachusetts. (Arlington's other sister cities are Nagaokakyo, Japan and Port Arlington, Ireland.) The Arlington-Teosinte Sister City Project is a volunteer-based organization that fosters the relationship between Arlington and Teosinte.

Arlington is one of nineteen U.S. communities or organizations that have partnered with a Salvadoran village. Our neighbors, Cambridge and Watertown, also have sister cities in El Salvador. The Arlington-Teosinte Sister City Project is a member of the National US-El Salvador Sister Cities Network (www.elsalvadorsolidarity.org).

Sol y Canto founders Rosi & Brian Amador perform “Tunes for Teosinte,” a benefit concert for Arlington’s sister city in El Salvador. Rosi and Brian will perform joyful, original Latin roots music that moves, delights, excites, and connects the audience to the richness of Latin American culture. This show will have both adults and kids out of their seats and dancing in the aisles! As a special treat for young audiences, Rosi and Brian’s 13-year-old twin daughters Alisa & Sonia will perform as well.

Date: Sunday, November 22, 3:00 pm. Location: Arlington Town Hall, 730 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington.

Advance tickets prices: $8 adults, $5 children. At the door: $10 adults, $7 children. Family maximum: $35. For advance tickets, see www.brownpapertickets.com (look up “Teosinte”). For more information, contact Sarah at 781-643-7804.

At the show, enjoy our bake sale and shop for fair-trade handbags, housewares, and other items…all beautifully handcrafted in Teosinte! Get a start on your holiday shopping!

Proceeds to benefit the Arlington-Teosinte Sister City Project’s high school and college scholarship program for youth in Teosinte.

Teosinte is a farming village in rural El Salvador that has been Arlington’s sister city since 1988. For more information, see www.arlingtonteosinte.org or www.solycanto.org

What the critics say…
"Sublime ambassadors of pan-Latin tradition. . .Sol y Canto is … destined for international renown … Rosi has a voice like clean spring water: it's smooth, it's clear and, somehow, you come to believe that it's necessary for life."
The Boston Globe

"...they preserve much of the instrumentation and sassiness of the music of Cuba, the Caribbean, Brazil and Argentina, but they also breathe new life into the music with exciting arrangements, standout vocals and top-notch playing. Sol y Canto's music is so lively and infectious..."
World Roots

"After a full hour, when kids would usually show how ready they are for other activities, Sol y Canto literally had them dancing in the aisles, and on top of seats..."
The Boston Globe, Scott Alarik

"I think Sol y Canto is the best music group ever. I have the Sol y Canto CD and I love your music."
Your fan, third-grader Ariadna Martinez
